Clothes Closet

What we do:

The St. John’s Clothes Closet provides FREE clothing to men, women, and children in need who are sent to us by community referring partners.  We also distribute household items such as sheets, towels, blankets in winter and small kitchen items such as pots & pans, etc. – no food. We are a collection & distribution site for “It’s 4 the Girls … Period” supplies.

Shoppers:

We are open for shopping only on Wednesdays 9:00am to 12:00pm.

We are located at 305 E. River St.
in a white 2 story house.

Families or individuals may come once a month and select 10 items of clothing per person (up to a maximum of 40 items) and 2 household items for the family.

To qualify: shoppers must be served by one of our referring partners and obtain a written referral form from them. Bring the completed referral form when you visit us the first time.

Becoming a Referring Partner –

Most of our Referring Partners are non-profits or governmental agencies with the ability to access the needs or serving those in our community who are classified as low income, disabled, mentally ill, homeless, or otherwise in need of clothing and household items. Please contact Pat Smith regarding the steps to become a referring partner.

Donors:

Help Us Serve Our Neighbors in Need

Your support is invaluable. Here's how you can make a difference:

Thank You For:

  • Donating clean, gently used clothing and household items.
  • Bagging items in white tall kitchen bags with drawstrings (these bags will be reused to package items for shoppers). Please avoid knotting the drawstrings.
  • Sorting items into separate bags, labeled by category: men’s, women’s, children’s, and household. This helps us process them faster.
  • Bringing items in season (e.g., summer clothes in summer, winter clothes in winter). Storage space is limited, so your help in this regard is much appreciated.

Most Needed Items:

  • Men’s clothing: Casual clothes, shoes, caps (all sizes)
  • Women’s clothing: Plus size 2X and 3X
  • Jeans and athletic shoes (for everyone)
  • Underwear, socks & pajamas (for everyone)
  • Sheets (please indicate size), towels (anytime), and blankets (winter only)

Donation Drop-Off:

  • Location: Back door (305 E. John St.)
  • Days & Hours: Mondays & Wednesdays, 8:30 AM - 11:30 AM
  • Clothes Closet tours available on Mondays
  • Tax receipts available upon request

Estate Donations:

We encourage donors to space out their contributions and bring items in season. This helps us manage the volume and makes processing easier.

If you are unable to space out your donation, please contact Pat Smith before bringing your items, and we will arrange an alternative storage solution.

Thank you for your continued support and generosity! Together, we’re making a positive impact in our community.

Volunteers:

Clothes Closet volunteers are grateful for the opportunity to serve God by serving our neighbors. We take great care to assure that donations are displayed in an organized way using “store hangers” and size markers so our shoppers can find what they are looking for. We want our “customers” to leave the Clothes Closet with the clothing they need as well as their spirits lifted.

Approximately 20 volunteers work on Monday and/or Wednesday sorting, sizing, hanging, folding and displaying items that have been donated as well as assisting shoppers and helping them with check-in/check-out. Most volunteers are members of St. John’s but others are welcome to come and work alongside our experienced volunteers. If you are interest in volunteering regularly or just a few hours, contact Pat Smith so we can find a job that fits your schedule and abilities. Our volunteers are not allowed to shop at the Clothes Closet.
